inspirational words

As I've admitted many times before, I am a big fan of inspirational words and affirmations. I became fascinated with positive words years ago when I met with a woman at my beloved yoga retreat center, Kripalu. I can't for the life of me remember the type of therapy she practiced, but I will never forget our session. She put me in a hypnotic state in order to cull the negative beliefs about myself that had been formed at the beginning of my life, after which she provided me with various tools to retrain my brain and replace those beliefs with positive ones. She gave me several books, personalized affirmations and changes to consider. And that experience altered my reality entirely. As I read about quantum physics and the power the brain has to transform your life……well, my life became transformed.

I have endured quite a lot of personal tragedy in my short life and I believe that tragedy would have continued indefinitely, but with the might of my brain I have been able to rewrite my destiny and experience myself and my life in a positive way. In essence, I have regained power over my life. I choose to love, believe, hope, smile, heal, grow and live as free from negativity as possible (which isn't always easy).

It's remarkable to me that our self-perception is in large part written by others as we grow up (positive and negative). To me, that means the world around us has more power than we do….but it's our life, something only we can truly know or experience. One of the most important things I've ever heard (in my support group, aka my saving grace) is "other people's opinions of you are none of your business." Hallelujah. So, if none of those opinions matter and we are what we think…….why not fill up all that empty space with thoughts that light us up? Why not refuse to live in other people's idea of our reality? Why not choose to enjoy the breaths we are given despite the tragedy we may encounter? Why not love ourselves even if others don't?

Some great words to live by….
