canvas prints

I finally got around to printing some of my photographs on canvas! These will be on display at my joint art show with the fabulous Hannah J this spring, and will also be up for sale in my Etsy shop soon.

One of the noticeable differences between printing on canvas as opposed to paper is the brightness and richness of the colors. It definitely adds something special to almost any print, not to mention eliminates the need for a frame.

Tide is absolute perfection on canvas what with the added texture and deeper colors.

My Pink Light print glows on canvas. I shot this photo looking directly into the sun to light the flowering pink blooms aglow, and looking at the canvas it appears that the sun is literally jumping off the fabric.

This white flower is what motivated me to finally print something on canvas! I immediately envisioned it with more depth and texture than photo paper offers.

One of my most popular prints, The Dance of Branches, I have been asked again and again to print it on canvas so here it is!

If you are interested in any of the prints in my shop printed on canvas just message me your request!

aqua leaves

My husband left for tennis training camp in Florida yesterday morning, leaving me home alone for a week. I am not a fan of being away from him for that long, even being the
introvert I am who loves her alone time. It's really insane to me that there is a person on this planet that I can stand being around as much as I am around the hubs, but it's a truth I enjoy! Sadness aside (and yes, I did tear up when he said goodbye, my god I'm emotional), I was looking forward to a very quiet Sunday of art projects.

I have many works in progress at the moment, and also had some final touches to put on old paintings. One painting I am excited to be working on is for my baby niece's nursery. I felt inspired by the completely empty, aqua walls of her room when I went to visit, and immediately volunteered to paint something. This is my first attempt at children's art, but so much fun to create! I've only laid down the first two solid layers (the aqua and blue piece above), but I'll be sure to post the final result when I finish it.

Here is one finished project:

I'm really loving these metallic natural leaves that I picked up at the art store! Good buy!

exhaustion

Trampoline Exhaustion, originally uploaded by Jamie Hide.

This is me today. I truly don't understand how other people have the energy to do anything but sleep on Friday nights. I am looking forward to a weekend of z's, painting and photogging, but right now all I want to do it lie down and the day just started. One of those days....

irelands forty shades of green

I've never been one to make a big deal out of St. Patrick's Day, even though I'm Irish. But, the day does make me wonder about my heritage, and what life might have been like on the Emerald Island for my ancestors. Such a beautiful place....

play time

It's amazing to get lost in a child's imagination. They are so creative, so true to themselves, so expressive, and they don't care about messes or mistakes.....great qualities for an artist to be inspired by! Playing loosens us up, purges all the yuck in the way of creativity, and gives us a meditative break from thinking, worrying or obsessing about the areas where we are stuck (creatively or otherwise). That is why it's a great practice for anyone! I try to incorporate a little "play time" into my artistic process to get as close to my natural, free self as possible.

looking for inspiration

Today is dark and rainy, one of those days that makes it so difficult to wake up in the morning (or all day!). On top of the sleepiness, I'm feeling frustrated by a lack of inspiration. I have entertained SO many ideas this morning only to find myself at an inspirational dead end. So my final attempt is to get back to basics and meditate on the simple things that truly inspire me as an individual and an artist.

Trees

Leaves

Road Trips

Meditation

Yoga

Camping

Mountain Tops

Hiking

Sunrises

Waterfalls

Flowers

Love

Music

Lakes

Camp Fires

My Crazy Husband

Other Artists

Children

Just to name a few....

garden poetry

Garden Poetry, originally uploaded by ladybugrock.
Alone in the garden,
she picked flowers barefoot.
Grass damp with spring rain
made her feet cold.
But the long forgotten sun warmed her skin and her soul sang.
~Lady Bug Rock

We're all getting pretty excited here in Connecticut, because the weather has been growing warmer, teasing us with the possibility that spring might finally be here. As I sit here writing this in the early morning it is still dark outside, but I can hear the birds chirping already which lifts my spirits.

Interesting how our bodies instantly react to birds chirping, isn't it? We subconsciously associate their song with warm days and sunny mornings, and on a deeper level, happiness. I've honestly been feeling more gung ho the past week with the birds tweeting as I eat my breakfast. Perhaps because the sound reminds me of days spent barefoot in the grass with the warmth of the sun coaxing me out of my vitamin D deprivation. Yes....how I love the changing of the seasons. And it wouldn't be the same (for me) without the end-of-the-season "I've reached my threshold!" I always experience an excitement for the new season, whatever season it happens to be, but inevitably come to a point when I'm ready for it to change again.
